Chocolate and cream bikini top

Here’s the pattern for a plus-size bikini top (you can easily adjust it to a smaller size, however). You can download the FREE PDF from Ravelry here -it’s my first design and it’s a gift for you! Click this link to download now. The pdf also has a few photos and tips on how to make this top.

If you are comfortable with just following written instructions, go ahead! 🙂

You will need:
White and brown cotton yarn. I used a thick 8/8 cotton yarn called Samba, but any thick cotton will do, or two strands of a 4/4 cotton (stands to reason, doesn’t it).
4mm hook
Scissors and needle

If you want a good fit I suggest taking a couple of measurements of your cups, neck and midsection. I reckon these are even more important than gauge for this project.

The pattern is for a C cup and 95 back (I’m a large lady) but you can easily adjust the pattern to your size by adding or subtracting rows from the DC rounds in the triangles and, of course, adjusting the length of the straps.

Now let’s start:

Ch 15+2, dc in third loop from hook, dc around. 4dc in last ch, turn and DC down the other side of the chain
R2 ch2 (counts as at throughout the pattern), dc around, (2dc, Ch, 2dc) in top stitch, dc down the other side
R3-8 repeat R2 (or until desired coverage)
Make 2. Weave in ends.

Border: take one triangle, join white yarn in bottom left stitch. Ch1, *1hdc in same stitch, hdc around first side. 3hdc in top stitch, hdc down other side. 3dc in bottom right corner. Now 2hdc in each of the DC’s of the bottom of the triangle. Hdc once more in bottom right corner and take the other triangle to join. 2hdc in bottom right corner and repeat from * until you have completed the border.

Now without breaking the yarn make 2dc in the stitch that joins the triangles and start with the puff stitch border. Ch2, sk1, puff stitch, **ch2, sk2, puff st. Repeat from ** until the corner. Ch 2, make 3dcs in the corner, ch2 and continue from ** until the stitch where the triangle join. Do not stitch into that stitch but simply ch2 and puff stitch in the first hdc on the border of the next triangle. This will also create a nice effect.

Finish border and fasten off.

Surface crochet (optional) join white stitch after the second and the sixth rows of DC’s and surface stitch around.

To make the straps: take a couple of measurements around your neck and midsection and chain for the required length. I have used a larger hook (6mm) and a strand of each colour to create a braid-like effect, then knotted the ends and left a small tassel.

There! Done! I hope you enjoyed making this bikini top and am looking forward to seeing your finished pieces. Use the tag #supernovacrochet on Instagram or Facebook so I can see and share your work!

I’d appreciate your help to continue keeping up the website and my patterns free, so if you can offer me a cuppa using the orange button on the right I’ll be very grateful! If you can’t, continue sharing my work – this helps me too. Thank you!
